The Vets
THE NURSES
The Office Staff

Our Nurses are an invaluable part of the team. They work hard all day, striving to look after your animal should he/she be with us for more than just a routine appointment (see "In for an Operation" in the navigation panel to your left). As well as administering medication to our inpatients, it is the responsibility of the nurses to ensure the animals are comfortable at all times, to assist the vets during operating by preparing the patient for surgery and supervising anaesthesia and generally seeing that things run smoothly. You may get to meet some of the nurses on your visit if the vet needs extra-assistance during a consultation and they are always available to lend a hand if you need assistance during a visit or on house-calls.

In the event of a fire, DO NOT PANIC!

Our Nursing Team Are:

Shelley - "Can anyone hear banging?"

Shelley Andrew - Hi, I'm Shelley and I have been at the practice for eight years. Originally, I started out as the "Friday-Night-Girl" and eventually progressed to being a full-time member of the nursing team.

I thoroughly enjoy working with animals and my speciality has become hand-rearing animals which have been abandoned, orphaned or in desperate need of some TLC. This usually involves taking work home with me, along with copious amounts of milk substitute, syringes, cottonwood and many bedding changes!

My own pets at home have become accustomed to seeing unfamiliar pairs of beady eyes peering out of a basket, and now realise that when "mum" gets up every two hours throughout the night, to feed the babies, it does not mean feed-time for them. I usually get a break during the day at work when the other nurses lend a hand with the feeding. It can be very hard and tiring work hand rearing animals, but the rewards are worth it, when I see them going off to new homes with happy new owners. Sometimes, though, it can be difficult and I am known for wanting to keep them all!

My latest cat "Bandit" was one of a hand reared litter that I did keep (I couldn't resist) and she is growing into a lovely, healthy, happy cat. In my spare time, I enjoy riding my horse and helping out at endurance rides, going to the cinema and reading vast amounts of books.

If you kiss Ian he'll turn into a Water Dragon

Ian Boan - Hello, I'm Ian. I have worked at the practice part-time since 1996, Initially on a voluntary basis but later as a member of staff.

I have lots of pets, including: a dog (Patch is in the "Rogues Gallery") and a cat (Tootsie) as well as a budgie (Granville), a gerbil (Angel), three rats (Charlie, Andre and Manuel) and tropical fish.

Tootsie and the rats were rescue cases, acquired through my work with the practice. In my spare time I like music, PETS, watching TV and reading.

Tracy smiling, incase she's on Candid Camera!

Tracy Greenhalgh - Hi, I’m Tracy and have been a part-time member of the nursing team here for three years.

Before coming to work here I worked full time for 7 years in a small animal practice in Lincolnshire, where as well as an interest in the nursing side of animal care, I also became interested in Canine behavior, and instructed at pet obedience and agility in my spare time.

Since moving to Fife I have passed the Canine/Human Interface qualification, which is a study of the behavior of dogs and their relationship with us as humans, and now see behavioral consultations through the surgery at Dundee.

If I am not a work I am enjoying my own pets among which are my 2 rescue German Shepherd Dogs: Tabboo who has been an integral part of my family for 8 years now, and Reef who has been with us for just over a year. Both enjoy the working side to training, Tabboo with agility (as seen on the photo in Rogues Gallery) and Reef is showing promise with tracking and search work.

I can often be spotted across the fields doing some form of training, or just letting them play and enjoying being dogs.
As well as the dogs I have a variety of other animals, Chinchillas, Rats and Dengus.

Gillian puts on a brave face despite the 3 inch talons slowly draining her circulation, via her shoulder.

Gillian Martin - Hello, I'm Gillian; I work full time as a nurse, at the practice.

I have been at the practice for over twelve years, now, back in the days when it belonged to Miss Cameron.

My cats Minstrel and Amber can be seen in the "Pets Gallery", both of them originally came from the practice.

I am in charge of all the ordering for the practice so I have to be on my toes to make sure we have enough medicines, surgical equipment and first aid things like bandages.

Gill: Mistaking her own dog for bagpipes!

Gill Stacey V.N. - Hello I’m Gill; I have been with the practice for 8 years and am a full time member of staff.

I am a fully qualified V.N. (veterinary nurse) having completed the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons two-year course in January 2002. Although the hard part is over, I still keep up-to-date and have recently completed a dental course and am now embarking on an assessor’s award to allow me to assess student nurses and help them through the nursing syllabus.

In my spare time I enjoy going out with friends, the cinema and most outdoor pursuits. I also spend a lot of spare time with my own pets, which are fish, ferrets, cats, a dog and a few other four-legged critters!
