HOW OLD IS MY CAT OR DOG IN ANIMAL YEARS?

A year is a year for any living creature on Earth, a year has nothing to do with the species of animal but is the amount of time it takes the planet Earth to do one complete orbit of the sun.

Dogs and cats do age differently to humans, however; they generally have a much shorter life than your average human being. When we refer to "Dog Years" and "Cat Years" we are really looking at the ageing processes going on in the body and trying to equate these changes to those which occur in the human body at a given time of life.

Dogs do not "age" at the same rate as cats and we can also see that smaller breeds of dog often live longer than giant breeds of dog. Many people assume a rate of one human year as seven dog years but it can be shown that in the first few years of life, ageing and maturity occurs quicker than in the later years. Below are some charts which try to give you a rough idea of what age your pet would be if he/she were a human.
